Stephen D. Adell

Steve Adell, principal at Adell, Harriman & Carpenter, Inc., brings nearly 35 years of experience to his role as financial advisor and investment manager. Steve holds a B.A. in Business Management from Whitworth College in Spokane, Washington, and an MBA from Southern Methodist University. Prior to forming AHC with Mark Harriman and Leia Carpenter, he served as Director of Admissions and Dean of Students at LeTourneau University. He is actively involved with a number of charitable organizations and is a member of Houston’s Westbury Baptist Church.

Leia P. Carpenter

A Chartered Financial Analyst (CFA®), and a member of the Houston Society of Financial Analysts, Leia Carpenter has served as the managing principal of Adell, Harriman & Carpenter, Inc. since 1999. She holds graduate and undergraduate degrees from Rice University, and prior to joining AHC was a principal of Kingston Financial Services, Inc. from 1990 to 1995. Leia chairs the AHC investment committee, organizing the firm’s research efforts and portfolio management, and has represented client interests as a member of the Fidelity Alumni Advisory Council. She is a member of the CFA Institute, Rice University Business and Professional Women, Agape Development Board of Directors and West University Baptist Church in Houston, Texas. In her free time Leia loves to travel with her family and sing with her church choir.

Mark W. Berry

Mark Berry, principal at Adell, Harriman & Carpenter, Inc., serves his clients as both financial advisor and investment manager.  He has a combined fifteen years of experience in private equity and investment management.  Mark serves on the AHC investment committee in addition to his duties in portfolio management. He represents AHC as a member of the Fidelity G2 Leadership Institute and regularly speaks at investment conferences on active management and U.S. equities topics. Mark holds graduate and undergraduate degrees from Baylor University, and an MBA in Finance from Tulane University. He and his family belong to Tallowood Baptist Church in Houston, and they are actively involved with several Houston-based charities.  Mark is also an accomplished vocalist and frequent soloist, conductor, teacher and adjudicator in the Houston community.

Scot W. Johnson

Scot Johnson, principal at Adell, Harriman & Carpenter, Inc., has over 20 years of experience in the investment management industry.  He holds the Chartered Financial Analyst (CFA®) designation and is a member of CFA Institute and CFA Society Houston.  Scot earned both a BA (Economics) and MBA (Finance) from Vanderbilt University.  Prior to joining AHC as a portfolio manager, he worked for AIM/Invesco in increasingly senior investment roles.  He serves on the AHC investment committee and contributes to the firm’s equity, fixed income and ETF research efforts.  Scot represents AHC as a member of the Fidelity G2 Leadership Institute.  He is a Houston native, graduating from The Kinkaid School before following in his father’s footsteps to also earn two Vanderbilt degrees.  Scot and his wife, Amy, are proud parents to twin girls Adele and Abby (both 16) and son Scotty (8).  Scot and his family are members of St. John the Divine Episcopal Church.  When away from the office Scot enjoys golf, cooking and traveling with his wife and children.

Jennifer L. Barron

Jennifer Barron is our newest member of Adell, Harriman & Carpenter, Inc.  She joined our firm in March 2023 as an Investment Advisor/Portfolio Manager.  Jennifer began her career in the investment management industry in 1995.  Before joining AHC, she was an Executive Director of Eaton Vance, Distributors Inc., part of Morgan Stanley Investment Management (MSIM.)  Prior to that she was Vice President, Territory Sales at American Century Investments.  She started her career at AIM Distributors, Inc. and held a variety of roles there over her first 10 years in the industry.

Jennifer earned a BBA in Finance from the University of Texas at Austin.  She holds the Certified Investment Management Analyst (CIMA) and Chartered SRI Counselor (CSRIC.)  She volunteers and is a member of the Houston Livestock Show and Rodeo, the Barbara Bush Literacy Foundation, Houston Symphony League, the Greater Houston Women’s Chamber of Commerce, the Bluebonnet Society of Austin County and is a sustainer at the Junior League of Houston. She also serves as Vice President and Chair of the Investment Committee on the Foundation Board at her high school, St. Agnes Academy and is on the board of VICTORY Houston, Inc. who raises money to find a cure for cancer.

Jennifer is a fourth generation, native Houstonian.  In her spare time she loves traveling, cooking, spending time with friends and family and entertaining with her boyfriend.  She has a wonderful Pomeranian that is the joy of her life and a niece and nephew she loves to pieces.
